Autumn Competition

DBR – Comp dates 17 March to 23 June. Ideally will need to open regos from 17 Feb to 28 Feb but if delayed a week filling Registrar position should still be able to form teams and start as planned.

DS – proposed come and try open days to gain interest in mens comp. Propose to be held 5th and 12th March. SR could also hold a mixed open day on 3rd March.

EB – will purchase new whistles and balls prior to competition opening.

DS – adult bibs are hard to read, suggested coloured blank singlets instead. ML – has some old touch singlets that may be suitable.

AMJ – Ballers have completed online ref course but would be beneficial if could provide some coaching sessions to develop confidence to blow the whistle. DBR proposed 3rd March prior to the mixed open time. SR suggested presenting the new refs with a committee shirt. CS – to follow up on face-to-face ref course from Maitland or BNSW.

Referee payments

EB – questioned if the payments were sufficient and how we can provide incentive for refs to perform at a higher standard, particularly an issue in mixed comp.

DBR – junior comp ref payments are $10 or $15 if completed course. Also $15 for adult refs in junior comp. Could increase to $20 with cert and experience. CS – to provide a copy of the checklist junior refs are provided when undertaking online course. If payments increase with experience, it would be good to document where refs need to focus to move to higher payment level so there is a clear criteria set.

DF – refereeing game is expected as part of team duty, TL agreed that expectation was fair. DS shared that in Muswellbrook comp it is not part of team duty and refs paid $25 a game and also paid to bench. EB suggested there needs to be extra incentive for senior refs and to align with juniors. $15 a game or $20 with experience. $25 for finals.
